A few years ago when we moved to the Maritimes within our first weeks we were greeted by Hurricane Dorian. It was, to say the least, an adventure and left us asking "why the heck did we move down here". Since moving down here we have learned about and experienced Nor'easters and hurricanes.
Today I am taking down the Hustler 4BTV and my Endfed wire antenna. Anything that can be blown around has been stored away and our generator is filled, tested and ready to go. The generator with a remote start and is connected to a transfer circuit breaker panel. It feeds our fridge, heat pump, living room, bedroom and radio room.
This hurricane adventure is supposed to start this evening (Friday) and last until Sunday morning.

Good luck to you, Mike. We're thinking about a whole-house gen as well. Is yours gas or propane/LP fueled?

Good afternoon Jeff very nice to hear from you, we are as prepared as we think we can be but as always something interesting may come up.

Good afternoon John, our generator is gas and I really wanted natural gas. With natural gas, there is no fill-up like gas BUT out east natural gas is not very common. We have a 15KW generator with the electric and remote start along with 3 20-litre gas containers. The generator gets a 1 hour run time each month under load. It's in an all-weather protective cover that does not need to be removed when the generator is in operation. I maintain it spring and fall, and I want to make sure it works without issue when we need it. Up to this point, we have needed it about 5 times with the longest run time of 9 hours.
Have a good weekend John and looking forward to your POTA posts.

Stay safe Mike!!! Hopefully it won't be as half as bad as they are forecasting.

Good morning Bill, well we are in the middle of it now and the winds are peaking at 125 km. We have the generator giving us power but almost everywhere in the southern part of the province is out of power. We shall see how it progresses.

Learned about this storm from our news today. I hope everything went well. I understand that a hurricane this far north is unusual. 73, Bas
Good afternoon Bas very nice to hear from you, well the storm is now slowing down and the winds are around 40-50km. In the middle of the things, we had winds peaking at 125 and higher. Our power was out for about 14 hours but we have a backup generator. Thank goodness for the generator as with it going in the house it was like nothing had happened. I have looked around the property and no damage was done.
As for hurricanes in this area, fall is the season for us. This is our second major one and in the winter a similar event is called a Nor"Easter and we have had about 4 of them. So I'm guessing that these events though not really common do come our way from time to time.
Have a great weekend Bas,
